Kitchen Classroom Buzzing with Culinary Creativity!

This term, the Kitchen has been alive with the sounds of sizzling pans, mixing bowls, and enthusiastic chatter as students from Year 7 to 10 have embraced the joys and challenges of cooking.

Year 7 students have taken a big leap towards independence, tackling recipes with minimal teacher guidance. This has been a great way to test their understanding of procedural texts, recipe interpretation, and culinary vocabulary. So far, they’ve whipped up cheese and bacon muffins, chicken fried rice, and what might just be the best ever chocolate cake!

Year 8 students have been slicing their way through a delicious term. Their final assessment saw them choosing from a range of ingredients to create their own unique slice. The results were impressive—students modified recipes, experimented with flavours, and showed off their creativity in the kitchen.

Year 9 students have stepped up to support the canteen, gaining valuable experience in time management and workplace skills. They’ve become more confident in reading complex recipes, adjusting quantities on the fly, and working efficiently under pressure.

Year 10 students have completed their TAFE modules and are eagerly awaiting their certificates in:

• Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
• Prepare and Serve Non-Alcoholic Beverages
• Introduction to Restaurant Service

This has been a truly rewarding experience, equipping them with real-world skills and confidence for future careers in hospitality. Coming up, they’ll spend a day at TAFE to complete their Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate—another exciting step on their journey.
