Presentation Assembly
Our presentation assembly allowed us to share outstanding achievements across the school from Grade 7-12. We were again overwhelmed by the support at our assembly with over 170 community members present on the day. I would like to thank Mr Franks, Mr Murray, Mrs Hawkes, Mrs Mihal and Mrs Pearce for ensuring the assembly ran smoothly.
Included in the newsletter are our award recipients for this year. Congratulations on your outstanding achievement. I know that your family and friends would be very proud.
Grade 10 Students
It was with mixed emotions that we farewelled our Grade 10 students at their final assembly. This group of students have gone beyond our expectations. They have been amazing role-models in their leadership roles and have helped create the safe and supportive environment that is evident today.
Schools play an important role in shaping who we are, or who we will become. If 2020 has been anything to go by, these students are leaving RHS ready for the next stage of their life. I am sure the people they have met and the experience they have gained will be etched in their memories forever. We hope they make the most of their opportunities post Grade 10 and find their place to shine. We wish them and their families the best for the future.
2021 Prefects
During the second half of this year our Grade 9s have been working through a leadership process to nominate for Prefect in 2020. These students stepped out of their comfort zone and put themselves through an application, speech and voting process. I would like to thank all students for embracing this opportunity and giving it their “Best Effort”. Below are the elected prefects for 2021. They will be formally inducted into their roles at an assembly early next year.
Nollan Anthonly-Peel | Emilia Aylett | Keegan Berger | Josh Bingham |
Riley Boatwright | Zak Bonney | Zara Cole | Brea Cunningham |
Tahlia Harvey | Brylie Hingston | Kosta Mallios | Abbey Matthews |

Congratulations to the following students
What a great way to end the year. Not only does Dimity give her best effort at school, she has now achieved the Australian Scout Medallion, which is only achieved by a small percentage of scouts across Australia. Dimity’s dedication to achieve the medallion has been evident over a long period of time, however, her commitment during the last 12 months has been amazing. We are really proud of your efforts Dimity. Keep reaching for the stars!

We have had some more great news to finish the year. Hayden has been selected in the State U/15 Hockey Team. He has had some great successes in Hockey
over the past few years and this is a culmination of his efforts. Hayden is a very modest young man, however, you could see his excitement when talking to me about his trip to Bathurst in April for the 2021 National Championships. Tasmania has always punched above their weight in hockey and I’m sure that Hayden’s team will do the state proud. Congratulations on your achievement Hayden.
It was also great to hear that his sister Molly has also made the state team. Molly will be starting at RHS in Grade 7 next year. We are also looking forward to watching Molly’s career progress – congratulations Molly.
Congratulations to Nikki
We are incredibly proud of Nikki for receiving a Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarship. Out of a field of 768 applications, Nikki has been successful in receiving this prestigious scholarship. Nikki is a hardworking and dedicated student who always makes the most of all her opportunities and strives for excellence. Throughout her schooling, she has continually demonstrated Reece High School's values of 'Respect, Best Effort, Responsibility and Inclusiveness'. We couldn't be more proud of Nikki's achievements and thankful to the numerous people who have worked with her to help her realise her potential.
The Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship over 4 years of high school, awarded to girls across Australia who successfully meet the selection criteria and rigorous application requirements. The program gives these girls the tools and resources they need to not only complete high school but to reach their potential and build direct pathways to tertiary education.
Well done Nikki, We look forward to seeing what you can achieve throughout high school and beyond. The Harding Miller Education Foundation
Medication/Medical Changes for 2021
DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION OR REQUIRE MEDICATION AT SCHOOL?
New rules have been put in place around medication at school. The school is no longer allowed to accept parent verbal permission for medication, for example: Panadol, antihistamine.
Any students identified with a medical condition for example Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Anaphylaxis or allergies needs to have an updated/current Medical Action Plan for 2021 signed by their GP.
Medical Action Plans and Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication Forms that are not current for 2021 will not be accepted.
MEDICATION
Medication supplied to the school must be in date and in original containers or Webster-pak prepared by a pharmacist.
Prescription
If your child requires prescription medication to be kept at school, the Education Department requires an updated Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication signed by your child's doctor or pharmacist by the commencement of school, 3rd February 2021.
Non prescription
For over the counter medication for students, for example: Panadol, antihistamine etc parents are required to complete an updated non prescription authorisation form. (we are no longer allowed to accept parent veral permission for panadol etc)
We appreciate your assistance with this to ensure your child’s safety while at school. School excursions and camps for students without the necessary documentation for their safety is at the discretion of the Principal.
The Department of Education recently announced that we would be expanding the Student Assistance Scheme for 2021.
Parents who have a current concession card as listed below can apply for dependent students for assistance under the STAS:
* Service Australia - Centrelink Health Care Card
* Service Australia - Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card
* Service Australia - Pensioner Concession Card or
* Department of Veteran Affairs - Pensioner Concession Card
Please note that if you are already receiving student assistance you do not need to complete a form.
For 2021 a new on-line form has been developed to assist with processing applications for new applicants.
The online form can be completed here: https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/
The form will be available for public use from the 10 November.
Once a validated form is completed the Department of Education will confirm the outcome of your application in writing, this process takes approximately 14 days.
We understand this online option may not be possible for all families, so if you require a hard copy form please contact your school or the Financial Assistance Unit on stas@education.tas.gov.au or 1800 827 077.
During Community Connections, the Grade 7 students worked hard in our school grounds. The purpose of Community Connections was to give back to the school community in some way. Students worked hard gardening, placing bark on our garden beds and picking up rubbish. Staff were extremely impressed with the effort students put into this initiative.

On Monday 7th December our Grade 8s enjoyed a day at Camp Clayton. It was a day set aside to celebrate our students hard work and successes during 2020. After a year where we were unable to provide a camp or to organise our annual geography excursion, it was both rewarding and pleasing to be able have a more relaxing day outside of the classroom.
At Camp Clayton students were given the opportunity to participate in Indoor Rock Climbing, be harnessed for a turn on the Giant Swing, as well as a Team Rescue or the Obstacle Course. There was also free time during the day to try out Ga-Ga Ball, Mini Golf or just bounce on the trampolines.

In 2021 there is significant changes to the bus network that students will need to be aware of.
Below is a link to the Transport website with some of the school bus changes, just scroll down the page to find the Reece High tab. We would encourage all parents that if they are unsure of changes that affect them to call our office on 6427 7626 or Department of State Growth on 6166 3343 for clarification.
If you require a hard copy of the document that Merseylink have created to help teachers, parents and students understand possibilities of how to get to and from school next year using the New Urban network please collect one from the office.
