Thankyou
I would like to thank our Reece High School families for their unwavering support this term. We have been impacted by large staff absences due to COVID and I couldn’t speak more highly of the way students have still continued to focus on their learning and be respectful to all staff. We are hoping there will be more stability in staffing next term as COVID numbers decrease.
As you would be aware, the Tasmanian Government has announced that there will be no changes to its COVID Safe Plan next term, with students in secondary schools still required to wear masks. Our teachers did play a joke on the Grade 9 students on April 1st stating that they had to double mask. The students were definitely relieved when they found out that this was an April fools’ joke.
In relation to extra-curricular activities, we will continue to inform our community if restrictions are eased in relation to school football etc.
Celebration
Last Thursday we held our Annual Leadership Induction Assembly. Our leaders and families attended a small assembly to acknowledge their child’s achievement in gaining a leadership position for 2022. I would like to thank Nic Haywood for attending the assembly and delivering an outstanding message for our 2022 leaders. Student leadership and voice has long been a highly valued aspect of the Reece High School Community. Students are provided with a range of formal opportunities to develop their leadership skills and are highly supported by staff in these pursuits. The students who were elected to their leadership positions consistently display our school values, support others, show initiative and are heavily invested in our school and community. Below is a list of our elected members.

Grade Assemblies
We held grade assemblies this week to recognise our Realising Potential and Responsibility award winners. Our Realising Potential award is based on the students application and growth in their studies across all areas of the curriculum, highlighting that their personal effort is a big contributor to successful learning. The Responsibility award is based on one of our school values as outlined below.
RESPONSIBILITY Taking positive ownership of our actions and outcomes and making the most of opportunities |

Reports
Your child’s report should have arrived home last Thursday. The most important aspect of a child’s progress is the personal effort they apply to their learning. If you have any questions in relation to your child’s report, please contact their principal teacher.
Easter Creation
Here are some photos of Easter creations made by Zoe in Grade 9 - they have proven to be very popular, and what she made disappeared quickly - well done Zoe!!

Navigation Camp!
This term, the 9 Outdoor Education classes have been learning how to use a map and how to navigate using grid reference, compass bearings, contour lines and GPS. Although we could not stay the night, we still organised a ‘camp’ and spent time learning how to prepare a good camp meal and equipment needed. Students formed their own groups to complete a treasure hunt for points around the Kecley Tier Green Belt area using their navigation skills, before making their way to our camp spot. They then successfully cooked their camp meal on trangias and gas cookers before packing up and making their way back to school in the dark. We were really impressed with the food choices students made and the team work shown in working together to gain points and navigate to camp unassisted in the bush.
